My Dad started this tradition to honor the memory of his mother, Stella (my Grandmother). She was a giving woman who invited everyone she could to the dinner table on Thanksgiving. It was a way to share his past with us his children and to show us how rewarding kindness towards others can be. This started as a small family endeavor and he never planned on asking anyone for help. As me and my sister Kayla grew up with this tradition, We pushed him to ask to invite and ?ask? others for help. He did this, somewhat begrudgingly, and the results were amazing. With donations from so many people, we were able to double, triple, and even quadruple the number of people we fed, going from handing out 20 turkeys in a parking lot to homeless shelters, churches, schools, and more, providing almost 600 families with full Thanksgiving meals. There are scores of people that were responsible for that and we appreciate them all.
Over the years, we have made so many people smile with a simple donation of a Thanksgiving meal, for them and their loved ones. This year has been especially hard for all of us and with financial struggles, the coronavirus, and safety being a concern, we all wondered if we would be able to even continue our tradition this year, but I reminded my Dad that as much as we have all struggled this year, these families we donate to each year are facing bigger struggles than ever before.
We understand that this is a complicated year for everyone, but we encourage everyone to do whatever you can, whether that be donating online, sharing our project with others, or anything else you can come up with that may help.
We are happy to announce that The AJ Project, a non-profit organization contributing to the arts and advocating for organ donation after the passing of 26-year-old AJ Perrelli, has allowed us to join them in an effort to boost the efforts of our small family fundraiser. I strongly encourage you all to visit their website at https://www.4theajproject.org/ and read about their causes, as they have been so generous to us and we are very grateful.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this and please feel free to contact us if you have any useful information that could possibly help us grow our efforts this year. I hope we are able to provide as many families as possible with the help they need and we would like to wish you all a lovely holiday season!
